KCF Announces 2018 Grant Awards $18,000 awarded to 11 local organizations

The Kodiak Community Foundation (KCF), an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF), is pleased to announce its 2018 grant awards. This year, KCF provided $18,000 to 11 local organizations. The full breakdown of grant awards is provided below.

The KCF Grants Committee, which includes KCF Advisory Board members and other community volunteers, made the grant selection in late July after reviewing more than two dozen applicants. KCF Program Manager, Brianna Gibbs, said narrowing down worthy causes is never an easy task, but she was impressed by the care and consideration the committee gave each applicant.

Among those to receive a grant were Kodiak Public Broadcasting Association, Old Harbor Alliance, Inc., Senior Citizens of Kodiak, and Peterson Elementary PTA. A majority of this year’s grant funds came from the KCF endowment fund, with the exception of a $3,000 grant to the Kodiak High School Booster Club made possible through the Brian R. Young Sports Travel Fund.

The KCF endowment fund is a permanent charitable fund for the Kodiak region, one that generates annual interest to be granted out to local organizations without ever touching the principal investment. KCF’s vision for Kodiak is to fully engage the island community in generous giving to gain self-reliance and growing support for causes that matter.

“We are proud to have helped Kodiak be a better place to live with these awards,” said KCF Advisory Board Chair, Craig Johnson.
